Visitors of the "Spring of Health" physical culture and recreation club, which operates at the day care unit for elderly citizens of the Lepel District Territorial Centre for Social Services, assure that physical activities fill them with new energy and bring joy.

"A healthy body harbours a healthy mind" is the motto of the club members, and these are not just empty words. We saw this for ourselves when we visited the sports hall at the territorial centre for social services.

"Our priority in these classes is, of course, the strategy of active longevity, preserving and strengthening the health of our wise citizens, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. By the way, our club is attended by 12 people from the town of Lepel who have passed the age of 60. Additionally, on Wednesdays, we provide transportation for residents of Mezhytsa village, which adds another 5-6 people," says the club leader, Svetlana Aleksandrovich. "It's easy to join us; you can do it right at the department. The main thing is to have the desire, regardless of age! We are always happy to welcome new members to our friendly team!"

"Our club leader is a skilled professional; she doesn't just ensure everyone is exercising but that they are doing it correctly. She selects individual exercises for each person. She observes everyone very attentively and offers guidance," say the visitors about their leader.

To avoid excessive strain on the spine and joints, many exercises are performed lying on gymnastic mats. Physical exercises help in preventing dementia, other illnesses, and generally strengthen the body.

Many note that they cannot exercise at home, but here everything comes easily. During the sessions, there is also an opportunity to socialise, which is also important for people of a wise age.

"Everyone is different. Each person requires an individual approach, and that is provided here. This is thanks to our Svetlana," say the club members with gratitude.

As it turns out, Svetlana Stanislavovna moved to the Lepel region in 2015 from Kharkiv; she is a mother of 4 children.

"My children have been living a peaceful, quiet life for 10 years. That's the most important thing! When I was a child, my family moved to Ukraine, so, in a way, I have returned to my small homeland. Initially, I lived in Lepel in my grandmother's house, and in 2019, we received an apartment as a large family. I have no intention of leaving Lepel because the nature here is beautiful, everything is within walking distance, and there are all the conditions for raising children properly and for a comfortable life."

In Ukraine, our interlocutor received medical and pedagogical education, worked at an ambulance station in the resuscitation team, and later as a speech therapist in a kindergarten.

In Lepel, our interlocutor initially worked as a general practitioner's assistant at the outpatient clinic, and since July 2023, she has been a club leader at the Territorial Center for Social Services of the Lepel District. Svetlana carefully selects a set of exercises for each club member in accordance with their health status.

Classes are held from 13:00 to 17:00, both individually and in groups. Join us!
