President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a working meeting with the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Considering that you hold many meetings with people (both direct telephone lines and face-to-face), what is the public saying? I have also met with people a lot recently. Perhaps they don't tell me everything as they tell you, so this is very important," noted Alexander Lukashenko.
The Head of State inquired about the current activities of the Council of the Republic and its plans for the near future.
The President also recalled that an expert council operates under the upper house of parliament. "What do you see, in which direction should we move here, so that we adopt more considered and precise laws in our state?" he asked.
Natalya Kochanova, in turn, thanked the Head of State for the opportunity to discuss issues that, in her words, are now on the agenda.
As Natalya Kochanova told journalists, one of the topics of the meeting was working with citizens' appeals. "The main focus of our policy is people. And what our people are concerned about today is important to us," she noted. "The issues people approach us with are absolutely diverse, but we see the overall picture. I want to say that people have a very kind attitude towards their country. This is true. Seeing what is happening in the world, they probably now evaluate everything that is happening in our country somewhat differently. When we ensure food security, when there is peace and quiet on our streets. Of course, people appreciate this."
Some of the issues that citizens bring to senators should be resolved by local authorities. And the Council of the Republic keeps this under control, Natalya Kochanova emphasized. If something needs to be regulated at the legislative level, parliamentarians take note of it.
