The head of state placed a special emphasis at the meeting on the task of curbing price growth. "We are approaching the winter period, and, in addition to anti-epidemic issues, there is the task of curbing price growth so that it does not exceed an acceptable level for the population. This applies particularly to the cost of food products," the President clarified.
He noted that the issue of price growth is very sensitive for the population. "The issue of issues. There are people responsible for this. Deal with it. So that there are no unpleasant conversations on this topic later," the President addressed those present.
"Along with the adoption of anti-inflationary measures, order must be established where the economy of the sector ensuring food security begins. The trends I see in the agro-industrial complex are sometimes alarming. Although the state has lent a helping hand in all areas where this support was needed and requested," said Alexander Lukashenko.
The head of state stated that the harvest is generally complete. The procurement of corn for grain still remains, and the President demanded that this work be intensified and completed in the near future, while the weather is favourable. "I see that we are obtaining good additional millions, thousands of tons of grain, which we lack. And by the end of the year, we can reach the production of all types of grain exceeding 9 million tons. Of course, this is not the 10 million tons of last year, but 9 million tons is a completely acceptable volume that will fully meet the needs of our state," the Belarusian leader emphasized.
Separately, Alexander Lukashenko inquired about the progress in establishing stabilization funds: "Here, I categorically warn all of you, leaders at all levels: we have been using these stabilization funds since Soviet times as a reserve to smooth out price fluctuations and ensure stable supply to the consumer market during the off-season. That is, cabbage, potatoes, beetroot, carrots, and so on – what we store in warehouses – is intended to provide for our people during the autumn-winter period, until the new harvest becomes available. Ensure that there are sufficient quantities of these products."
The President noted that a detailed discussion on readiness for the winter stall period and the filling of vegetable storage facilities will take place in November.
