To avoid becoming a poacher, hunters are advised to thoroughly study the species of birds permitted for hunting using visual aids before heading out. It is recommended to shoot only when birds have landed near the hide, allowing for better identification. In the heat of the hunt, many hunters neglect this rule and, as a result, end up shooting species that are prohibited from being hunted.
Two incidents that occurred in the Sharkovshchyna and Glubokoe districts serve as clear examples of hunters shooting at all flying birds without verifying if they were permitted for hunting. In both cases, hunters shot two individuals of the white-fronted goose, a species prohibited from hunting. In both instances, environmental damage amounting to 180 base units was caused, leading to criminal liability under Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
