In anticipation of Radunitsa and Victory Day, a significant portion of the population travels out of town to tidy up cemeteries. Often, these bright holidays are overshadowed by the increasing danger of fires: people neglect safety rules while tending to the plots of their loved ones.
Rescuers of Lepel region remind you of safety rules when visiting cemeteries:
do not throw burning matches or cigarette butts;
do not burn dry grass near bushes, trees, or wooden structures;
do not carry out uncontrolled burning of rubbish or light fires;
do not leave bottles or glass shards in sunlit clearings.
In addition to calls not to burn vegetation, there are serious penalties for such actions. According to Article 15.57 of the Code of Administrative Offences, the illegal burning of dry vegetation, grass in its root or failure to take measures to extinguish fires on land plots entails a fine of 10 to 40 basic units.
If you discover a nascent fire, such as a small grass fire, try to extinguish it yourself. Sometimes it is enough to simply stomp out the flame (however, you must wait and ensure that the grass is not actually smouldering, otherwise the fire may reappear).
To extinguish grass fires, use the following methods:
beat out the fire from the edge of the fire with bundles of twigs (like a broom) or young deciduous trees; cover the edge of the fire with soil or sand.
If you cannot extinguish the fire on your own, call the rescue service (phone "101", "112") and report the detected ignition source.
