On January 20, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A ten-day precipitation norm fell in Vitebsk over the past day, Lyudmila Borodenok, a leading engineer-forecaster at the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, told a BELTA correspondent. In less than a day, the snow cover in the regional center increased by 6 cm to 19 mm. In the region as a whole, the greatest snow depth was observed in the north of the region (about 15 cm), and the smallest (8-10 cm) in the southeast. The wind in some places reached 15-16 m/s. Such unstable weather due to the intensification of cyclonic activity is also expected in the coming days, the meteorologist noted, adding that the night air temperature will fluctuate between 3-8 degrees below zero, and up to minus 10-15 degrees in clear spells. During the day, the thermometer will not drop below minus five degrees Celsius. A drop in air temperature is expected in the region from the middle of next week. Due to difficult weather conditions, the Republican Unitary Enterprise "Vitebskavtodor" has switched to a round-the-clock operating mode, the organization reported. As of the morning, 95 sand and salt spreaders and 117 snow removal vehicles were operating on the roads of the Vitebsk region, which, in addition to highways, also cleared bus stops, parking lots, and exits. "The organization has created a sufficient supply of fuel and anti-icing agents for the uninterrupted organization of work," added RUE "Vitebskavtodor". No power outages have been recorded in the Vitebsk region due to blizzards and heavy precipitation so far. "However, in case of possible emergencies related to bad weather, rapid response teams have been created, additional crews have been organized and are on passive duty, and increased readiness of equipment and personnel has been ensured," reported RUE "Vitebskenergo". -0-
