Delegations from Uzbekistan visited healthcare and medical education institutions of the Vitebsk region

Vitebsk region hosted two delegations from Uzbekistan, participants of the "Uzbekistan-Belarus Healthcare and Medical Education Days" medical forum. Representatives of the medical education system and practical healthcare visited similar institutions in Vitebsk region. Heads of higher education institutions and public health technical schools of Uzbekistan became acquainted with the approaches to training specialists of higher and secondary levels at Vitebsk State Medical University and Vitebsk Medical College.

Vitebsk State Order of Friendship of Peoples Medical University collaborates with many leading foreign universities in the fields of medical science, education, and practical healthcare. In particular, VSMU has established cooperation with medical higher education institutions in Bukhara, Karshi, Termez, and Samarkand in Uzbekistan. New contacts have been established today. The development of joint residency training programs, as well as student and faculty exchanges, is planned. The parties are convinced that such cooperation accelerates the exchange of modern knowledge and technologies, and contributes to the development of innovative forms of medical education, science, and healthcare.

Practicing physicians, heads of hospitals, clinics, and territorial medical associations of the Central Asian state learned about the possibilities of providing medical care in medical institutions of various levels in Orsha and Vitebsk.

In Orsha, the guests learned about the treatment approaches at the multidisciplinary City Hospital No. 1 named after N.A. Semashko and familiarised themselves with the operating principles of the inter-district centre.

In Vitebsk, Uzbek doctors were informed about the structure and functioning of the region's healthcare system, and how primary medical care is provided in district hospitals, general practitioner clinics, and paramedic-obstetric points. Subsequently, they were introduced to the tactics and modern methods of diagnosis and treatment for which the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Oncological Dispensary is renowned in Belarus. This year alone, the method of detecting potentially dangerous tumours at early stages – high-tech venous blood analysis PanTum Detect – has been introduced here, CAR-T cell therapy has been applied (a method of treating cancer patients using their own immune cells), and modern laparoscopic surgeries are performed.

Uzbekistan is ready to adopt the advanced experience of foreign countries, including the Republic of Belarus, in the process of transforming its healthcare system. The guests appreciated the equipment and facilities of our medical institutions, the warmth of the premises despite the cold weather outside, and the hospitality of Belarusians.

— I mainly focused on the work of maternity and child health services. Recently, there have been no maternal deaths here at all, and infant mortality rates are very low. I was also interested in the work of primary healthcare facilities, the FAPs (Feldsher-midwife posts), — shared her impressions, the head of the Dzhambay District Medical Association of the Samarkand region, Tozagul Kholikova.

The guests noted that there are differences in the healthcare systems of Uzbekistan and Belarus, which is why they came to see interesting approaches.

— We are united by the victory in the Great Patriotic War, long-standing friendship, and a common language. So, I believe there will be mutual understanding and close, cohesive work, – concluded Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
