Belarus Day was held on January 4 at the Christmas Fair in St. Petersburg, the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia informed a BELTA correspondent. The Christmas Fair is being held in the northern Russian capital for the seventh consecutive year. This year, this major cultural and charitable event is being held in an international format. Its motto is the Pushkin lines: "All flags will visit us!". 19 countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, India, Spain, Italy, China, Lithuania, Slovakia, USA, Ukraine, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, are presenting their national New Year and Christmas traditions on Ostrovsky Square. The Governor of St. Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko, took part in the solemn opening ceremony of the Republic Day, highly appreciating the achieved level of mutually beneficial partnership between Belarus and St. Petersburg. The Chairman of the Fair's organizing committee, Nikolai Yakovlev, noted the wide range of goods presented by Belarusians. Products from the Minsk and Borisov meat processing plants, confectionery products from Minsk's "Kommunarka" and Bobruisk's "Krasny Pishchevik", and Smolevichi felt boots were in high demand. The performances by Belarusian pop singer Georgy Koldun, as well as the folk dance ensembles "Bely Ptakh" and "Belye Rosy" became a real New Year's gift for the fair guests. Belarus Day concluded with folk festivals, karaoke, and a New Year's disco.
