On April 17, the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations celebrated the Day of Honouring Veterans of the Emergency Situations Bodies and Divisions of the Republic of Belarus. The holiday was established by order of the Minister for Emergency Situations dated May 26, 2011. The date of the holiday was not chosen by chance – it is the Day of the Fire Service of the USSR, and the working days of many distinguished firefighters fell precisely during this period. The head of the department, Lavyets Valentin Eduardovich, delivered a congratulatory speech, noting that people with such experience are role models for young fighters and officers. He also thanked those present for their active stance in preventing fires and emergencies and for educating the younger generation. The most active veteran firefighters were awarded "Veteran Gratitude" medals. In turn, the veterans wished all employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations good health, inexhaustible life energy, new successes in implementing all ideas and aspirations, as well as many worthy victories and achievements in realising plans and ensuring the safe life of the citizens of the Republic of Belarus.
