This opinion was expressed today by the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Chairman of the National Organizing Committee for the Preparation and Celebration of the Day of Written Language, Anatoly Tozik, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
Anatoly Tozik read out a greeting to the participants sent by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that not only the organizing committee but also the local residents have done a lot to properly welcome guests and fully demonstrate the rich cultural traditions of their region. Thanks to the good organization of the Day of Written Language and the work of the city and district residents, Glubokoe will further develop as a significant tourist centre of the Vitebsk region and the entire country, he is convinced.
In turn, the Deputy State Secretary of the Union State, Ivan Bambiza, noted that whatever role audio-visual mass media play in modern life, the book in its classic printed form remains man's best and most reliable friend, his educator, teacher, and helper. According to Ivan Bambiza, the Standing Committee of the Union State has always actively supported projects aimed at developing the common information space of Belarus and Russia, especially concerning publishing initiatives. "A good tradition of the Day of Written Language has become the awarding of cultural and art figures with a special diploma for their work aimed at strengthening the friendship between the peoples of the two countries," he said. This year, the awards were received by writer and sociologist, head of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy "Belarusians of Russia" Valery Kazakov, as well as RIU "Literature and Art".
Participants of the Day of Belarusian Written Language were also welcomed by Bishop Veniamin of Borisov, Vicar of the Minsk Diocese of the BPC, and Oleg Morhat, Chairman of the Glubokoe District Executive Committee.-0-
