The "Union State Day at Zhemchuzhina," dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the Union measure for the treatment and rehabilitation of children from the most affected areas of Belarus and Russia by the Chernobyl NPP disaster, will be held at the Zhemchuzhina Children's Rehabilitation and Health Centre (Vitebsk region) on October 8, the centre informed BelTA. For 10 years, the budget of the Union State has been financing measures for the treatment and rehabilitation of children from the areas most affected by the Chernobyl NPP disaster. The Zhemchuzhina Children's Rehabilitation and Health Centre has been one of the permanent implementers of the Union State programme in this area since 2004. During this time, over 1.8 thousand children have undergone a course of rehabilitation and specialised treatment there. The centre noted that the Union programme for the treatment and rehabilitation of children from the affected areas of Belarus and Russia by the Chernobyl NPP disaster holds immense social and educational significance, as it fosters a positive attitude among young people towards integration processes within the Union State and establishes friendly ties between children from the two countries. Currently, 110 children from three regions of Russia: Bryansk, Kaluga, and Tula, as well as 350 children from the affected districts of the Gomel region, are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the Zhemchuzhina Children's Rehabilitation and Health Centre. The event will be attended by representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State, administrations of regions of Belarus and Russia, representatives of the Republican Centre for Health Improvement and Spa Treatment of the Population, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, and Belarusian and Russian medical and health organisations involved in the implementation of the Union programme. During the event, they will meet with the children staying at the health resort, familiarise themselves with the organisation of their recreation and health improvement, and also hold a round table to summarise the results of the ten-year implementation of the Union measure for the treatment and rehabilitation of children from the most affected areas of Belarus and Russia by the Chernobyl NPP disaster. -0-
