Driving with dipped headlights, rules for transporting children in cars – State Automobile Inspectorate officers conducted a preventive raid in Vitebsk as part of the Unified Road Safety Day, a BELTA correspondent reports.
In anticipation of the summer holidays, traffic police officers are conducting preventive campaigns and organising road raids, not just to identify offenders, but to remind all road users of safety rules and prevent accidents. In the regional centre on this day, traffic police inspectors ensured that drivers were driving with dipped headlights or daytime running lights switched on. Until June 5, a special set of measures "Attention - Children!" is being carried out across the republic. This is a preventive campaign to prevent injuries to minors on the roads. Violation of this requirement entails a warning for the first offence, and administrative liability and a fine of up to 3 base units for the second offence (1 BU - Br42).
"Today, the preventive event 'Safe Region' is also being held. Since the morning, in all districts, traffic police officers have been monitoring the road situation, identifying drunk drivers, drivers without licences, and those driving into oncoming traffic lanes. They also check how minor passengers are transported, and whether child car seats or special restraint devices are present in the vehicles," said Nadezhda Kasperovich, Head of the Agitation and Propaganda Department of the Traffic Police Directorate of the Internal Affairs Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, reminding that a fine of up to 4 BUs is provided for violating the rules for transporting children.
During the raid in the regional centre, traffic police officers handed drivers books with traffic rules to refresh their knowledge. For children, gifts were prepared – brochures explaining road safety rules in a playful manner.
"Since the beginning of the year, two road traffic accidents resulting in the deaths of children have occurred in the region – a passenger and a minor pedestrian who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. Last year, during the same period, there were no such tragic incidents," shared Nadezhda Kasperovich.
In the evening, traffic police inspectors will focus on pedestrians. "State Automobile Inspectorate officers will pay attention to the condition of pedestrians, whether they have reflectors in the dark and how they cross the roadway. I would like to remind everyone, especially children who are going on holiday, that you can only cross the road at a pedestrian crossing, making sure there are no moving vehicles nearby," emphasized the head of the department.
She added that during the summer holidays, police officers will visit round-the-clock and day camps, and work collectives with preventive measures. "We will conduct raids, including to identify violations when riding mobile means of transport. We urge drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to be attentive and respect each other in order to preserve the life and health of all road users," stressed Nadezhda Kasperovich.
