10 October, Minsk /Vitaliy Petrovich - BELTA/. A special body may be established in Belarus to combat illicit drug trafficking. This initiative was put forward by the Prosecutor General's Office. This was announced to journalists today by Sergey Zamaro, Head of the Department for Supervision of Operational-Investigative Activities of the Prosecutor General's Office. "In our opinion, the need has arisen to consider at the level of the Council of Ministers the expediency of establishing a special interdepartmental body in Belarus, which will not only combat illicit drug trafficking but also shape the state's policy in this area, and coordinate the work of all bodies and organisations," noted Sergey Zamaro. He stressed that such a practice is already used in Russia. "This issue is being discussed, and our initiative has been supported by specialists from relevant bodies," he added. At the same time, at the initiative of the Prosecutor General's Office, a draft of the new Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Operational-Investigative Activities" is being developed. This is the main law for detecting crimes, including those related to illicit drug trafficking. "It provides for investigative techniques such as controlled purchases and operational experiments. The adoption of this law will allow for the effective use of such tools, avoiding instances of provocation and falsification," emphasised Sergey Zamaro.-0-
