This opinion was expressed to journalists today by Alexander Mukhlya, senior researcher at the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. There will be no problems with compensating the costs of treatment for an ice-related injury if the injured person acts according to the following scheme: they should describe in detail to medical personnel the place and circumstances of the fall, and then send an application to the organisation responsible for the problematic section of the street. As a result, an investigation will be conducted, and the guilty party will be obliged to pay compensation, noted Alexander Mukhlya, drawing an analogy with the procedure for initiating a case for a road traffic accident: "Faxes from the State Automobile Inspectorate requesting medical documentation regarding a particular accident literally arrive at medical institutions every day." According to Edmund Grishkevich, Head of the Housing Management Department of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, he is unaware of any cases where a person has applied to a Housing and Maintenance Office (ZhES) for compensation due to an ice-related injury. According to statistics from previous years, people most often sustain injuries by falling on icy sections of pavements in courtyards and on roadways. This year, a sufficient quantity of sand-salt and anti-icing mixtures have been purchased to combat ice. The weather in October-December has allowed for their economical use. In the event of heavy snowfall, housing and communal services are prepared to deploy approximately 3,000 units of snow-removal equipment. -0-
