Dmitry Khoma: "More than 70 percent of voters who received ballots in the Vitebsk region supported the amendments to the Constitution"

Residents of the Vitebsk region took an active part in voting at the republican referendum on the draft amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. More than 70 percent of voters who received ballots supported the proposed amendment to the Basic Law. This was announced on February 28 by Dmitry Khoma, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Commission for the Referendum, as he spoke to journalists about the preliminary results of the voting in the Vitebsk region.

Residents of the Vitebsk region took an active part in voting at the republican referendum on the draft amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. More than 70 percent of voters who received ballots supported the proposed amendment to the Basic Law. This was announced on February 28 by Dmitry Khoma, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Commission for the Referendum, as he spoke to journalists about the preliminary results of the voting in the Vitebsk region.

Dmitry Leonidovich noted that all stages of the campaign took place in a calm atmosphere without significant remarks. The number of citizens' appeals regarding the preparation and conduct of voting throughout the campaign (up to and including February 27) was small and not of a fundamental nature.

Voter turnout at polling stations for the region as a whole was 81.11 percent. Over 43 percent voted early. All districts of the Vitebsk region performed well in this regard, but there are leaders among them. The best indicator was in the Dokshytsy District, where turnout was 90.04 percent. The Dubrovno District had 89.45 percent, and the Beshenkovichi District had 88.1 percent.

Of the 833,981 residents of the region included in the voting lists, the referendum was the first electoral campaign for 12.5 thousand young people. All those who voted for the first time in a socio-political campaign of this level were presented with congratulatory cards from the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus for Elections and Republican Referendums.

Dmitry Khoma reported that on the same day, February 28, the territorial commissions for the referendum established in the Vitebsk region would hold meetings to determine the final voting results in their territories. The next day, the regional commission, having received the relevant protocols, will establish the final referendum results for the Vitebsk region. Then the documents will be transferred to the CEC. After that, the Central Election Commission will summarize the final results of the republican referendum.
