He delivered a report on the implementation of an accessible environment for the life of people with disabilities and physically weak individuals in the region within the framework of the State Program "Social Protection" for 2021-2025.
Over a million people live in the Vitebsk region, 29 percent of this number are physically weak individuals, and 55 thousand are people with disabilities. Comfortable conditions for movement, travel, and service in shops and clinics should be created for them. Work continues on equipping the streets of Kirova, Komsomolskaya, and the territory near the "Elect" enterprise, where jobs for people with disabilities have been created, with tactile tiles.
The issue of the operation of a social taxi in Vitebsk is being considered, which will be specially equipped for transporting people with disabilities from home to any designated facility.
Tablets for sign language interpretation are being purchased for the city's clinics to simplify healthcare visits for people with hearing impairments.
The results of the meeting were summarized by the Deputy Chairman of the regional executive committee, Vyacheslav Durnov. He emphasized that an accessible environment in the city should be created with a comprehensive approach, from applying yellow stripes to steps to installing ramps. And this needs to be implemented at every facility; only then can it be called truly barrier-free.
