The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora reminds about the prohibition of fishing by the banned method of snagging.
Snagging is a method of fishing carried out by jerking spinning tackle attached to a fishing line (thread) with double or treble hooks with weights, without bait or lure, which is used to catch and hold any fish accidentally encountered in the water by any part of its body, while in some cases, incidentally injuring with sharp hooks everything that swims in the path of these hooks.
This method of fishing is barbaric, however, poachers do not pay attention to this, as in places of greatest fish concentration during the spring spawning season, in depressions, near hydraulic structures, it is quite effective.
We remind you of the responsibility for fishing by the prohibited method of snagging: paragraph 3 of clause 2 of the Rules of Amateur Fishing states that snagging is a method of fishing using hook-based fishing gear, in which fishing is carried out without bait or lure by catching (holding) fish by the hook by any part of its body. Such a method of fishing, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 12 of clause 38 of the same Rules, is prohibited.
Fishing by the prohibited method of snagging entails administrative liability under Part 1 of Article 16.25 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus in the form of a fine from 10 to 30 basic units with confiscation of fishing gear or other aquatic animals and other items that served as the tool or means of committing the specified violation, or without confiscation. In addition, the legislation provides for compensation for damage caused to the environment by such fishing.
For clarity, let us recall that fishing lures are a broad type of artificial fishing lures that are replicas designed to imitate real predatory animals and attract the attention of predatory fish by using appearance, bright colours, bright reflections, movements, vibrations and/or loud sounds to appeal to the predatory instinct of the fish and provoke it to attack.
Living organisms and their parts, which are put on a fisherman's hook, are baits. These are typically: insects, insect larvae (bloodworms), earthworms and water worms, crustaceans, molluscs, and some other animals.
