The house of Vladimir Korotkevich in Orsha, where the writer lived in 1956-1958 and created the famous novella "The Wild Hunt of King Stakh", will be reconstructed. Businessman Andrey Balabin, who bought the house, told a BELTA correspondent about the restoration plans.
"I met with the Minister of Culture Yuri Bondar, and curators for the project have already been appointed. The house will be fully restored and turned into a museum. A plan for reconstruction work is currently being developed," the entrepreneur noted.
In addition, the formation of a fund for the future museum has begun. Some items are already available, for example, a desk that belonged to literary critic Adam Maldzis has been purchased. Vladimir Korotkevich sat at it and worked more than once. The search for other exhibits for the future museum is also underway.
If necessary, problematic areas of the house will be repaired. However, the amount of construction work will be minimised to preserve the authenticity and atmosphere of the place. A gazebo or stage will be built next to the house, where cultural events can be held. "I was born and grew up in Orsha. This year and the next two have been declared the Year of the Small Motherland, which is why the idea of purchasing and reconstructing arose. After that, the house will be handed over to the city," Andrey Balabin added.
It is planned to complete all work by the 90th anniversary of the writer's birth in November 2020. It is possible that the deadline will be shortened and the renovated house will be opened earlier.
Andrey Balabin, a native of Orsha, bought the house in October 2018. Until 2015, the husband of the writer's niece lived here. After his death, his daughter became the owner of the property. In this house, Vladimir Korotkevich wrote one of his most famous works, "The Wild Hunt of King Stakh". His friends, including Ryhor Baradulin and Gennady Buravkin, visited him here.
