On December 13, Minsk / Ekaterina Nechaeva - BELTA /. Early voting for the Presidential elections of Belarus begins on December 14. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Central Commission for Elections and National Referendums.
At 10:00 AM, over 6,000 polling stations will open throughout Belarus and abroad. On the days of early voting, they will operate until 7:00 PM with a break from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. All those who for one reason or another will not be able to come to the polling stations on December 19 will be able to cast their vote in support of one of the 10 candidates.
To receive a ballot paper, voters must present a passport. It can be replaced by a military ID (for conscripts), a state employee's service ID, a pension certificate, or a student ID (if they contain a photograph), a certificate from the internal affairs bodies (for citizens who have lost their passport), if the presenter is listed in the voter lists at this polling station.
Those who are not on the lists for any reason will be added to them additionally based on documents certifying identity and confirming permanent or temporary residence at this polling station.
Early voting outside the premises of the precinct commission, including at the place of residence, is not permitted. Home voting can be organized upon application by voters only directly on election day, December 19. It is also not possible to vote early at polling stations established in sanatoria, health resorts, rest homes, hospitals, and other stationary medical and preventive institutions.
The CEC reminded that voters fill out the ballot paper themselves. If they are unable to do so due to health reasons, they have the right to entrust this to another person, with the exception of election commission members, presidential candidates, their proxies, observers, and media representatives.
During the current election campaign, additional measures will be taken to ensure the transparency and openness of early voting. Thus, on the first day of early voting, the ballot boxes will be checked and sealed by the commission chairperson in the presence of at least two-thirds of the commission members.
On each day of early voting, at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, the commission chairperson or their deputy shall seal the ballot box slot with a piece of paper and then affix their signature thereto. The slot may be unsealed before the commencement of voting at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Observers and media representatives shall be entitled to be present during this process. While voting is not in progress, ballots shall be stored in safes or metal cabinets.
Daily during the early voting period, a copy of the protocol indicating the number of ballots received by the commission, unused and spoiled ballots, as well as the number of citizens who received them, shall be posted at the polling stations for general access.
Early voting will continue until 7:00 PM on December 18. The following day, December 19, will be the election of the President of Belarus. -0-
