17 May, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. The main day of celebrations for the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk will be a public holiday in the city. A recommendatory decision to this effect was made at an extraordinary session of the Polotsk City Council, the Polotsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
At the extraordinary session, deputies adopted a decision to recommend that city organisations reschedule the working day from Friday, 25 May, to another day off, which will be a Saturday.
The additional day off will allow citizens to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the festive events, the main ones of which are scheduled for 25 May. On this day, the ancient city will honour its best residents and announce the names of honorary citizens. The choreography ensemble "Kharoshki" will perform a concert on the main city square, thus launching a concert and dance marathon that will run here until the early morning of the next day.
Throughout the day, six themed concert and entertainment venues will be operating around the city, where everyone, regardless of age, will find something to their liking. In addition, the city will host a parade of brass bands, a presentation of B. Kostin's book "Vladimir and Rogneda", and the play "Rogneda" staged by the Honoured Amateur Company of Belarus, the "Pilgrim" theatre. Numerous guests of the celebration will not be left without souvenirs, which will be sold by folk craftsmen at the "Polotsk Trading Settlement" trade and craft courtyard and at the "Krivitskiya Yarmarka" craft fair.
The celebrations in Polotsk will last until 5 June.-0-
