The fire in the village of Matyushi occurred late at night in a brick-faced panel house where a mother and her adult son lived. By the time the duty crew arrived at the scene, the house was completely engulfed in flames, and a few minutes later the roof collapsed. It was impossible to save the residents. Their bodies were found later under the collapsed structures. The suspected cause of the fire was carelessness while smoking by the owner's son, who was intoxicated. For a similar reason, a married couple from Postavy district almost died last night. After consuming alcoholic beverages, the man fell asleep with a lit cigarette on the sofa on the veranda of the house, and woke up when the clothes on him caught fire. By the time the rescuers arrived, the wooden veranda was burning and the entire house was heavily smoked, and the residents could no longer leave it on their own. The couple, rescued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees, suffered from smoke inhalation, and the owner himself also sustained burns to his hands and face over 5% of his body. They were taken to the hospital for assistance. In total, from September 16 to 22, the Ministry of Emergency Situations units of the Vitebsk region made 126 trips, including 19 to extinguish fires and 107 to provide assistance to organizations and the public.-0-
