On May 17, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The State Archives of the Vitebsk Region plans to implement two publishing projects in the Year of Books, as reported to BELTA correspondent by Sergey Rublevsky, Deputy Head of the Main Justice Department - Head of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. The pre-press preparation of the collection "Vitebsk Governorate. 1917-1924. Documents and Materials" is nearing completion. It includes a wide range of the most significant materials concerning all sectors of the national economy and spheres of public life, the history of the Belarusian Governor-Generalship with its center in Vitebsk, and the establishment of Soviet power during the last period of existence of this administrative unit. It is planned that the publication will be released by the end of the current year. Another important project, designed for a wider readership, which will undoubtedly attract serious interest, primarily from Vitebsk residents and city researchers, is "The Plan of the City of Vitebsk of 1904". The publication will allow comparing the modern appearance of the city with its historical plan. The book includes a list of all streets shown on the 1904 map by surveyor Moiseev, their modern names are given, and those whose layout has not changed are marked. "It will be interesting for readers to know, for example, that more than 30 streets of the regional center have retained their historical names. Among the most famous are Vitebskaya, Tolstoy Street, Zamkovaya, Liniya 1, Pokrovskaya, Suvorova," noted Sergey Rublevsky. The book will also include an essay by Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya, Director of the Marc Chagall Museum, paintings by Napoleon Orda, Dobuzhinsky, and rare historical photographs, which will make a walk through Vitebsk an exciting journey through time for any reader. The print run of the publication will be 1,000 copies. For its release, archivists are seeking support from sponsors. Publishing activities have been carried out by archivists of the Vitebsk region on a systematic basis since 2000.
