8 December, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. Two fishermen drowned in the Postavy district of the Vitebsk region, BELTA was informed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus.
The incident occurred on the morning of December 9 on Lake Kholosen’skoye. Two fishermen were drowning, and three eyewitnesses tried to save them. Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived at the scene urgently and pulled three people out of the water. One of the rescued individuals was taken to the hospital with hypothermia. Two others could not be saved – they drowned. The circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
"It seems that nothing deters winter fishing enthusiasts, not even the fact that people die on thin ice every year. Currently, the issue of bringing extreme sports enthusiasts to administrative responsibility for going out on ice with a thickness less than 7 cm is being considered. It is proposed to introduce a fine of up to 10 base units for such a violation in the first instance (one base unit is currently Br100 thousand). There is no other way, fishermen themselves do not take care of their lives," the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted. -0-
