Two people died and four were injured in a road traffic accident in Lepel district, the agitation and propaganda department of the traffic police of the Internal Affairs Directorate of Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. On the Krasnoluki-Lepel highway near the village of Bolshoi Polsvizh, in the afternoon of January 22, a 22-year-old resident of the village of Novye Volosovichi, driving an Opel car, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Volkswagen Golf driven by a pensioner from the village of Zeleny Ostrov, born in 1933. As a result of the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen, his 76-year-old wife travelling with him, the driver of the Opel car, and a non-working resident of Lepel, born in 1990, travelling with her, were admitted to the district hospital with injuries of varying severity. The passengers of the Opel died: a resident of Vitebsk, born in 1986, and a child born in 2008, the driver's daughter. The traffic police did not rule out that difficult weather conditions and the inexperience of the Opel driver could have played a role in this accident. The detailed circumstances of the incident are being investigated. As reported by the Main Traffic Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, this is not the only head-on collision with a tragic outcome that occurred over the past weekend and Friday. In Ivye district, in daylight, a 38-year-old resident of Minsk, driving a KIA car, lost control, the car drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a MAN truck with a semi-trailer. The driver of the car and his 35-year-old wife travelling with him were admitted to the hospital with bodily injuries, where the woman died the same day. In addition, in Tolochin district, a BMW 525 car skidded and went into the oncoming lane, where it also collided with a truck with a semi-trailer (Volvo). The truck drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a cargo Iveco. The driver of the BMW, a 29-year-old resident of Orsha, died at the scene, and his wife, born in 1985, travelling with him, was hospitalised.
