Bilateral agenda, pandemic and elections – Lukashenko and Putin held a phone conversation

A telephone conversation between the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin took place today on the initiative of the Russian leader. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the head of the Belarusian state.

In addition to the bilateral agenda, a significant part of the conversation concerned topical issues of countering the COVID-19 pandemic in the two countries and the development of a vaccine to combat this infection.

The heads of state also substantively discussed the progress of the election campaign in Belarus. Vladimir Putin, in particular, noted the importance of further developing fraternal Belarusian-Russian relations and the need to counter negative trends and actions by third parties that could lead to their deterioration.

One of the main topics of the conversation was the detention of 33 Russian citizens on the territory of Belarus. In this regard, the aspiration to thoroughly investigate this situation together was emphasized. The Presidents agreed to study each available fact as substantively and carefully as possible in order to establish the true causes of the current situation, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice.
