Road Safety Awareness Day under the slogan: "Fasten Up for Safety!"

On March 27, the State Automobile Inspectorate will hold a Unified Road Safety Day under the slogan: "Fasten Yourself to Safety!".

In the Vitebsk region, in order to prevent road traffic accidents, prevent violations of passenger transportation rules, including those involving minors, and to promote the use of seat belts and child restraint systems, the State Automobile Inspectorate will hold a Unified Road Safety Day on March 27 under the slogan: "Fasten Yourself to Safety!".

According to research, people ejected from a vehicle are tens of times more likely to die than those who remain inside. Accident statistics show that 80% of drivers and passengers who used seat belts were not injured in accidents.

Many drivers complain that wearing a seat belt makes them feel uncomfortable while driving and hinders their ability to control the vehicle. However, there are also those who, conversely, feel discomfort and unprotected when not wearing a seat belt. People who consider their safety begin to strictly adhere to the requirements of the Traffic Regulations. And when this becomes the norm, their actions become automatic.

Sometimes an unbuckled driver, even in a minor accident where the vehicle has no serious damage, sustains life-incompatible injuries or becomes disabled.

We remind you that according to clause 178 of the Traffic Regulations, "The transportation of children in a passenger car equipped with seat belts must be carried out using:

child restraint systems that match the child's weight and height – for children up to five years of age;

child restraint systems that match the child's weight and height, or other devices (booster seats, special seat cushions, additional seats) that allow the child to be safely fastened using the seat belts provided by the vehicle's design – for children aged five to twelve years. It is permitted to transport children under twelve years of age without using the devices specified in the first part of this clause if the child's height exceeds 150 centimeters, as well as in a taxi.

It is prohibited to transport children in the front seat of a passenger car using child restraint systems that match the child's weight and height, the back of which is turned towards the vehicle's windshield, if the front

the seat is equipped with an airbag, unless the frontal airbag system is deactivated”.

The use of not only so-called “child seats” but also other devices that allow a child to be safely secured with the standard seat belts is permitted.

As part of the Unified Road Safety Day, traffic police officers will primarily focus on violations of the Rules by drivers and passengers regarding the use of seat belts.

Please note that for this violation, according to Part 4 of Article 18.12 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, a fine of up to 1 base unit or a warning may be imposed on the driver.

For violation of the rules for transporting children, in accordance with Part 5 of Article 18.14 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, an administrative penalty in the form of a warning or a fine of up to 4 base units shall be imposed on the driver.

Dear drivers! Take care of your passengers in advance. Transport children only in special restraint systems, ensure that all passengers are fastened with seat belts. Do not forget to fasten your own seat belt. Remember, this will help save your life and health, as well as the lives and health of others!
