Such changes in condition threaten the life and health not only of the driver but also of those around them.
Any vehicle is a source of increased danger, and driving it while intoxicated can lead to tragic consequences.
What awaits drunk drivers?
A driver faces a fine of 100 base units and disqualification for three years if their blood alcohol content is between 0.3 and 0.8 per mille.
Exceeding the alcohol threshold of 0.8 per mille increases the sanctions to 200 base units and disqualification for five years.
Handing over control of a vehicle to an intoxicated person and consuming alcohol after being stopped by an inspector or after an accident are also punished quite severely.
Fines in such situations can reach 200 base units, and drivers can be disqualified for up to five years. If a citizen commits a repeat offense within a year, they face criminal charges and their vehicle may be confiscated.
Drunk pedestrians are also dangerous
Pedestrians under the influence of alcohol also pose a danger on the roads. Their careless actions – entering the roadway without assessing the situation, crossing the road in an unauthorized place – often provoke road traffic accidents.
In such cases, not only the offenders themselves suffer, but also other road users.
For intoxicated pedestrians in Belarus, the law provides for responsibility: a fine from 3 to 5 base units, and up to 8 base units if an emergency situation is created.
