30 April, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Environmentalists are taking control of the cleanup at all livestock farms in the Vitebsk region, the regional committee for natural resources and environmental protection informed a BELTA correspondent.
In the first quarter of the current year, agricultural organizations have improved 59 livestock farms and complexes, demolished 34 unused livestock and other agricultural premises, and removed 6.3 million tonnes of organic fertilizers. Woody and shrub vegetation has been cleared from agricultural fields over 3.1 thousand hectares. 2.3 thousand tonnes of scrap metal have been removed from machine yards.
However, targets for the demolition of unsuitable and unused livestock and other premises of agricultural organizations have not been met in 13 districts: with a target of 76 facilities, 34 have been demolished. Less than half of the operating farms have been inspected in nine districts. Less than a third of the operating farms have been inspected in four districts. In April alone this year, environmentalists identified cases of organic matter storage near farms in four districts.
In this regard, the regional committee for natural resources and environmental protection has decided to conduct an inspection of all livestock farms in the region by May 10. As noted by the committee, in accordance with the instructions of the Council of Ministers, measures have been approved in the region for the cleanup of land and improvement of populated areas for 2012. Similar measures have been approved in all cities and districts. A headquarters for land cleanup and improvement of populated areas is operating in the region, and similar headquarters have been established in cities and districts. Rural and settlement executive committees have developed measures for the improvement of rural populated areas. Patronage organizations have been assigned to all villages and settlements to provide assistance in carrying out improvement work. -0-
