6 October, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. World Health Organization (WHO) experts will assess the tuberculosis control programme in Belarus, the UN Department of Public Information in Belarus informed BELTA correspondent. From 10 to 21 October 2011, a WHO mission for the external assessment of the tuberculosis control programme will operate in healthcare facilities in Minsk, Minsk, Vitebsk and Gomel regions. The mission will involve a team of national and international specialists representing the national tuberculosis service, WHO, UNDP, USAID, the Global Fund, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the supranational reference laboratory in Stockholm. The main objectives of the mission are the external assessment of the tuberculosis control programme in Belarus on the implementation of the WHO "Stop TB" strategy in the context of strengthening the healthcare system, as well as providing the Ministry of Health with a comprehensive report with recommendations for improving tuberculosis control, including measures for controlling drug-resistant tuberculosis.-0-
