An electronic queue system for vehicles will be implemented at the "Grigorovshchina" international road checkpoint in the Verkhnedvinsk district in 2017. This was announced by the Chairman of the State Border Committee, Leonid Maltsev, in Vitebsk at a meeting on border security issues, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

Leonid Maltsev recalled that this year Belarus began the practical implementation of measures to introduce an electronic queue system at customs checkpoints with the most intensive traffic. The first was the "Brest" checkpoint on the border with Poland. It has been connected to the system since September 1, 2016. "It is always difficult at first, and in this case, there are certain nuances. The main drawback is that the service area is smaller than the number of vehicles. This needs to be taken into account in the future, and efforts should be made to ensure that the service area can accommodate the entire queue. There are also a number of other points that will be considered in further work, including in the Vitebsk region. Especially since the introduction of the electronic queue system is planned for the "Grigorovshchina" checkpoint in 2017. The completion date is set for December 31. But I have been assured that everything will be done by July. I visited the site and am convinced that completing the work by this deadline is quite realistic," said Leonid Maltsev.

Speaking about the main tasks for enhancing border protection efficiency, the Chairman of the State Border Committee noted that the realities of today must be taken into account in this activity. "Border security is the concern of every citizen of the country. Every day, news arrives about what can happen due to negligence in security matters. The recent events in Turkey and Germany are clear evidence of this. We must learn from others' mistakes and do everything necessary to prevent similar incidents," Leonid Maltsev is convinced. He also emphasized the need for more active educational work with the population, especially in border areas. All citizens of the country must know and strictly comply with the legislation on border security. In this regard, approaches to work should be changed, new forms of interaction with the population should be sought, and formalism should be avoided.

The meeting summed up the results of the work on ensuring border security in the Vitebsk region in 2016 and outlined the priority tasks for 2017.
