On September 24, Lida / Elena Stasyukevich - BELTA /. The Republican festival-fair of agricultural workers "Dazhynki-2010" will open today in Lida, reports BELTA correspondent.
The main holiday for grain growers is being held in the Grodno region for the third time. In 1997, the festival was hosted by Mosty, and in 2003 by Volkovysk. This time, the lucky ticket to host the 14th "Dazhynki" went to one of the oldest cities in the Grodno region.
About Br350 billion was allocated for the preparation of Lida for the holiday. The plan included 220 measures for the construction, repair and modernization of buildings, structures, utility networks, streets and roads, as well as landscaping and greening of the territory. 66 construction organizations carried out the work, involving about 5,000 builders. Local residents also helped to improve the city by working on voluntary workdays. As a result, the district center has acquired a new look for "Dazhynki".
A number of social, cultural, sports and historical-cultural facilities have been built and reconstructed, and trade, healthcare, and education facilities have been put in order. 29 streets have been reconstructed in accordance with modern requirements, 280 thousand square meters of asphalt concrete pavement have been laid, and more than 45 km of utility networks have been replaced and modernized. The facades of 123 residential buildings have been repaired, and a 110-apartment building for residents from demolished housing has been commissioned. The "Lida" hotel, the Palace of Culture, the bus and railway stations, and the "Yubileiny" cinema have been given new life, and a center for folk crafts has opened its doors in the building of the former "Oktyabr" cinema.
One of the most significant facilities – the Ice Palace, for the construction of which about Br38.5 billion was spent, will be solemnly opened on the second day of the holiday, September 25.
"Dazhynki" has brought to life the plans for the reconstruction of Lida Castle. And although all the work is planned to be completed in 2012, already today, guests of the festival will see the towers of the restored castle from afar, where a festival of medieval culture will open.
The city has also been decorated with symbolic objects – a stele dedicated to the 2000th anniversary of Christianity and a sculpture of a lion, which embodies the city's coat of arms.
Thanks to "Dazhynki", the residents of Lida have received a beautiful water park area adjacent to the main venue near the Palace of Culture. A three-level fountain has been built here, and a modern ski and roller ski track has been laid.
During the festival, about 2,000 trade workers will serve the city guests, and a similar number of artists from all regions of the country will take part in the cultural program. The opening ceremony of the XIV Republican Festival-Fair of Agricultural Workers "Dazhynki-2010" will begin at 15:00. -0-
