15 May, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. The "Rubon-2014" Medieval Culture Festival will be held in Polotsk on 23-25 May, the Polotsk District Executive Committee informed BELTA.
In the Year of Hospitality and considering the Ice Hockey World Championship, the Polotsk medieval culture festival will acquire new bright features, the District Executive Committee noted. The "Rubon" palette will be supplemented with elements of Belarusian identity such as national cuisine and museum ethnography: during the festival, a culinary festival will take place, a theatrical performance using museum exhibits will be held, and a reconstruction of historical eras of Polotsk region development will be presented. "The festival venue itself will fill the celebration with a unique flavour - the fest will be held near the walls of the ancient St. Sophia Cathedral, the image of which can rightfully be considered one of Belarus's tourist brands," the interlocutors emphasised.
The Polotsk medieval festival attracts the interest of knight clubs and tourists from Russia, Lithuania, and Poland. In 2010, "Rubon" joined the international tourist project "Bella Dvina". The festival programme is competitive in nature: an archery tournament, the "Ratna Kola" early medieval tournament, and developed medieval tournaments are held, as well as rating historical fencing tournaments for individuals and teams to select candidates for the Belarusian national team, which defends the country's honour at the international competition "Battle of the Nations" (Ukraine).-0-
