The event, aimed at promoting retroreflective elements, will be organised on the evening of November 16. The main participants of the glowing event will be students from the legal class of Secondary School No. 30. Ninth-graders in reflective vests and with flickers will dance in Victory Square to upbeat music. The lighting for this disco in the city centre will be provided by the headlights of traffic police patrol cars. After the bright (in the literal sense of the word) dance, the senior students will hand out flickers and brochures on road rules and traffic safety to passers-by.
"Many citizens do not think about the necessity of flickers. They believe that retroreflective elements are only relevant for rural residents," noted Alexander Kazuchits. "However, people most often get hit by cars at pedestrian crossings because they know that drivers must let them pass. Meanwhile, traffic regulations recommend that pedestrians use retroreflective elements to identify themselves when crossing any roadway in the dark. This will help drivers notice a person on the roadway earlier and brake in time."
