3 October, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. A photo exhibition dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk opens today at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the director of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, Tamara Dzhumantayeva, told a BELTA correspondent.
The 1150th anniversary of Polotsk has been recognised by UNESCO as one of the most important international commemorative dates and included by this international organisation in the 2012-2013 calendar. The decision was made at the 36th General Conference of UNESCO in Paris. The inclusion of the anniversary of the ancient Belarusian city in the honorary list testifies to the significance of this event for world culture. In this regard, the jubilee city has been given the opportunity to hold an exhibition in its honour at UNESCO headquarters.
The photo exhibition "Ancient Polotsk - Modern Polotsk" is presented in Paris. It comprises over 60 works by photojournalist Igor Supranenko, which tell the story of the city and its citizens. Four pairs of photographs show the same objects, taken from the same point with a century's difference.
According to Tamara Dzhumantayeva, the photo exhibition will reveal new facets of the Belarusian city to visitors and showcase its dynamic development.
The exhibition will be on display until 9 October. -0-
