1 June, Minsk. BelTA/. The traffic police of Belarus will be working in an enhanced mode during the upcoming weekend. This was reported to BelTA correspondent by Anna Banadyk, Senior Inspector for Special Assignments of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. Thus, enhanced traffic control on the M-5 (Minsk - Gomel) and P-20 (Vitebsk - Polotsk - Latvian border) highways will be introduced on the evening of June 1. Traffic police inspectors will monitor compliance with speed limits, overtaking and maneuvering rules, and the use of seat belts. With the efforts of local traffic police units, enhanced road patrols will be carried out during the upcoming weekend in Grodno and Grodno district, as well as in Lida, Dyatlovo, Svisloch and Ivye districts of Grodno region. In Gomel region, territories of Gomel, Kalinkovichi, Dobrush and Petrikov districts will be under enhanced traffic police control. Additional forces will also be on duty in Vileyka, Borisov, Smolevichi, Lyuban and Soligorsk districts of Minsk region. In Vitebsk region, offenders will be apprehended on the roads of Polotsk, Glubokoe and Tolochin districts. In Brest region, control will be established over Brest, Baranovichi, Malorita, Drogichin districts, as well as the cities of Brest and Baranovichi. Furthermore, the traffic police warn drivers who consider driving under the influence – they will face the strictest punishment. Additional traffic police checkpoints will be set up near places of mass recreation and large bodies of water. The "narrow lane" ("Filter") tactic will be actively used, which is particularly effective in identifying drunk drivers. Also, throughout the country, traffic police inspectors will be on duty in a well-established and highly effective manner (covert and mixed control) using "Vizir" photo and video recording devices and the "Arena" mobile complex, and the recorded information will be transmitted over long distances to traffic police units using 3G modems, which will respond accordingly. In some regions, traffic police vehicle patrols will be reinforced by motorcyclists.

The Traffic Police reminds reckless drivers that exceeding the established speed limit entails administrative liability and a penalty in the form of a fine of up to 10 base units (currently, one base unit is Br100 thousand), depending on the extent to which the driver has exceeded the permissible speed. For a second offense within a year of exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h, one may lose their driving rights for a year or be fined 15 base units. In turn, pedestrians should remember that crossing the road in an unauthorized place, against a red traffic light, suddenly stepping onto the roadway even at a regulated pedestrian crossing, as well as not using retro-reflective elements, entail the imposition of a fine depending on the severity of the violation, from 1 to 8 base units. Over the past day, 282 road traffic accidents were recorded on the country's roads, resulting in 2 deaths and 10 injuries. -0-
