The traffic police of Belarus is launching the "Attention - Children!" campaign.

26 May, Minsk /BELTA/. In connection with the upcoming summer holidays, a special comprehensive event "Attention - Children!" will be held across Belarus from 26 May to 6 June. This was reported to BELTA by the Main Directorate of Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

The traffic police noted that many parents are already starting to take children attending kindergartens to relatives in villages for the summer. Schoolchildren's classes will also end soon. "Police officers, educators, and parents will join forces to ensure children's safety. Police officers will visit work collectives, explain to adults the causes and consequences of road traffic accidents involving children, remind them of the rules for the safe transportation of minors, responsibility for traffic violations, and the importance of setting a personal example of correct and safe behaviour on the road," the traffic police said.

According to statistics, 70% of road traffic accidents involving children are caused by adults. In January-April of the current year, 10 children (8 pedestrians, 2 passengers) died and 108 were injured to varying degrees of severity in 108 road traffic accidents on the republic's roads. Among the children involved in road traffic accidents, there were 64 pedestrians (54% of the total), 42 passengers (36%), and 12 cyclists (10%). The traffic police emphasised that during this period, only 35 children were injured due to their own carelessness, while more than 80 were injured and died due to the fault of adult drivers.

The State Automobile Inspectorate once again urges drivers to be extremely careful when driving near children's institutions, passing unregulated pedestrian crossings, public transport stops, and in courtyards. Also, comply with the rules for the safe transportation of children.

During the "Attention - Children!" campaign, vehicles must be driven with dipped headlights on during daylight hours. This is necessary to attract the attention of young pedestrians to an approaching vehicle.-0-
