This was reported to BELTA by Anna Banadyk, Senior Inspector for Special Assignments of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Round-the-clock monitoring of the street and road network condition has been organised. The timeliness of snow removal and preventive measures to eliminate winter slipperiness by road and utility services is being tracked. If necessary, escorts for snow removal equipment will be organised. The traffic police urge drivers to observe parking rules and not to leave their vehicles at the edge of the roadway so as not to obstruct the normal movement of public transport and not to interfere with the work of snow removal equipment.

Currently, a special "Weather" plan has already been introduced in the Grodno region, which is implemented when the situation escalates. This means that the changing situation is constantly monitored, and all services, including utility services and the traffic police, are working in an enhanced mode.

The State Automobile Inspectorate strongly urges all road users to be as attentive and cautious as possible in difficult road conditions. "Drivers should not forget that snow removal takes time, and anti-icing agents do not work immediately after treating the road. You need to take this into account and choose a safe speed based on the condition of the roadway and visibility in the direction of travel. In some sections, it may not exceed 20 km/h," said Anna Banadyk, reminding drivers that it is necessary to increase not only the distance to the vehicle ahead but also the lateral clearance. In icy conditions, a nearby car can unexpectedly spin. You should avoid sudden braking and any maneuvers to prevent traffic accidents.

Those who are not confident in their driving skills are advised to refrain from travelling by private transport and use public transport.

Pedestrians should also exercise increased caution. Roads should only be crossed at designated places. Even at regulated pedestrian crossings, you should not start crossing until all cars have stopped. You should also mark yourself with reflective elements.-0-
