State Traffic Inspectorate of Vitebsk Region: From September 24 to 25, 2021, the State Traffic Inspectorate of Vitebsk Region will conduct a special event "Safe Region".

Over the first 8 months of the current year, 234 accidents were registered on the roads of our region, resulting in 52 fatalities and 251 injuries. In September, 20 accidents have already occurred, 3 of which involved rollovers, 3 were caused by driving into the oncoming lane and violating overtaking rules, 4 were collisions with obstacles, and 3 were pedestrian hit-and-runs. 6 people died, and 16 were injured.

As part of the event, traffic police officers will be on enhanced duty from September 24 to 26.
Inspectors will conduct operations on the main highways of the region under a mixed control regime to prevent traffic violations related to entering the oncoming lane and exceeding speed limits. The work will also focus on preventing drunk driving. Regarding pedestrians, traffic police officers will pay attention to their physical condition, as well as the presence of reflective elements during dark hours.

From September 24 to October 3, the republican preventive campaign "Pedestrian!" will take place.

The main goal of the event is to prevent road traffic accidents involving pedestrians and to promote the use of reflective elements and high-visibility vests during dark hours.

Police officers (not only traffic police) will patrol unregulated pedestrian crossings during "peak hours" and dark hours, as well as sections of roads and streets most at risk of pedestrian hit-and-runs.

The regional traffic police will conduct preventive campaigns among pedestrians, cyclists, and horse-drawn vehicle drivers.
