This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Prosecutor General of Belarus, Alexander Konyuk, who held a reception for citizens on personal matters at SOOO "Marko" in Vitebsk today. According to Alexander Konyuk, the Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and several other bodies have long initiated the issue of toughening penalties for drunk drivers. "The first meeting was held, where specific amendments to the laws – administrative and criminal – were being developed. In particular, we are preparing a proposal for the confiscation of vehicles, and we propose to strengthen responsibility in terms of increasing prison terms in cases where people died due to the fault of a drunk driver," said the Prosecutor General. According to him, the working commission has been tasked with submitting specific proposals by the beginning of November, after which the legislative process will begin. Alexander Konyuk commented on the legislative initiative of Oleg Gaidukevich, Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, who appealed to the leadership of the House of Representatives, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor General's Office with a proposal to combat drunk drivers by applying a special indelible ink mark to the hand of a drunk driver, stamping their passport, and confiscating the vehicle. "All these statements – a stamp on the forehead, a lily on the shoulder, something else – are nothing more than political PR. We are doing concrete things," said Alexander Konyuk, reiterating that the relevant departments have long initiated the issue of toughening penalties for drunk drivers.-0-
