On August 26, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. The Prosecutor General's Office, with the participation of employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, has uncovered gross violations of current legislation during an inspection of fire safety and labor protection at Orsha Meat Canning Plant OJSC. This was reported to BelTA by the Prosecutor General's Office.
Following the inspection, the Prosecutor General sent information to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus regarding the need to take measures to eliminate the violations and bring a number of officials of the plant to justice. In turn, the response received by the prosecutor's office states that the chief engineer responsible for labor protection and fire safety, as well as the chief mechanic and the foreman of the mechanical section, have been dismissed from the enterprise.
Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food will consider the expediency of the further employment of the current General Director of Orsha Meat Canning Plant OJSC. This will be done based on the results of the investigation of a criminal case, which was initiated this year following a fire at the plant.
As reported, a fire occurred in the gallery of the plant's refrigeration workshop on May 24. As a result, four employees of the enterprise – three men and one woman – died. The cause of death was poisoning by toxic fumes from burning insulation. The prosecutor's office initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code "Violation of labor protection rules, causing death by negligence to two or more persons." Its investigation is under the control of the Prosecutor General's Office. -0-
