On February 13, at 19:26, the operational control centre of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations received a report of a fire in an apartment on Chuykova Street in Lepel.
Upon the arrival of rescuers at the scene, smoke was observed coming from the apartment window. The apartment is a two-room unit, located on the fifth floor of a five-story, panel, multi-apartment residential building with two entrances.
The owner lives with her unemployed son. According to neighbours, she is characterised satisfactorily.
Before the arrival of the Ministry of Emergency Situations units, the owner's son was carried out of the apartment by neighbours. The victim's death was confirmed by a medical emergency team.
As a result of the fire, property in the room was damaged, and the walls and ceiling in the apartment were smoked.
The cause of the fire is being established. The considered version of the cause of the fire is carelessness while smoking.
