The Hydromet of Belarus has developed new weather forecast formats, Dmitry Ryabov, Head of the Hydrometeorological Forecasts Service of the Republican Centre for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Monitoring and Environmental Monitoring of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, informed journalists, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"Recently, a great deal of work has been done at Hydromet, and new weather forecast formats have been developed. First and foremost, an experimental probabilistic precipitation forecast for Minsk and regional centres has been developed. It reflects the probability of a certain amount of precipitation falling within 12 hours in the form of rain or snow. We will provide a forecast of the estimated amount of precipitation in millimetres, which will allow us to assess how heavy the rain or snowfall is expected to be and what consequences it may lead to," said Dmitry Ryabov.
Additionally, Hydromet has developed a more detailed weather forecast for district centres. "We can forecast not only the temperature but also the amount of precipitation and snow cover increase. This is useful for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, public utilities, and the general public. In the future, we will also introduce probabilistic weather forecasting," added the Head of the Hydrometeorological Forecasts Service.
Dmitry Ryabov noted that Hydromet aims to move away from such phrasings as "at times," "in places," and "in certain areas." "We will introduce more detailed weather forecasts by time of day, geographical, and administrative territories of the country into practice," he added.
