Over 2.7 thousand participants from Belarus and Russia will take part in the Republican Spartakiad of Schoolchildren, which will be held in the Vitebsk region from June 13 to 23, the Main Department for Education of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee reported.

The final stage of the competitions will be hosted by sports facilities in Vitebsk, Orsha, Polotsk, Novopolotsk, as well as in the Vitebsk and Gorodok districts. The delegation of the northern region of the country will be represented by over 280 athletes and about 50 coaches, representatives of national teams in various sports.

The grand opening ceremony of the Republican Spartakiad of Schoolchildren at the Summer Amphitheatre is scheduled for June 16. On the same day, the regional centre will host a flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial Complex in honour of Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans and underground fighters of the Vitebsk region, and a sports and mass procession of Belarusian and Russian teams' delegations titled "Youth. Unity. Sport."

In Vitebsk, on June 13, boxing, handball among boys, and rhythmic and artistic gymnastics will open the first day of competitions. Meanwhile, tournaments in women's volleyball, chess, and draughts will start in Orsha. In total, young athletes will showcase their skills in 21 sports, including track and field, weightlifting, trampoline gymnastics, football, volleyball, basketball, and judo. Russian schoolchildren are expected to participate in 13 of these disciplines. The Main Department for Education noted that grand opening and closing ceremonies with awards for winners will be held for each sport.
