Vitebsk Region intends to expand the network of specialised agro-classes.
Vitebsk Region intends to expand the network of specialised agro-classes. To this end, a development programme for agrarian-focused classes until 2023 is being drafted, as reported by the Main Department for Education of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
Agrarian-profile classes have been operating in the region's schools since September 1, 2018. This year saw their first graduation. In the new academic year, 43 such classes will be opened in the region for 266 students.
The department recalled that the decision to establish agro-classes was made with the aim of conducting career guidance work with students for in-demand agrarian-profile specialities. Studying in a specialised class involves learning two specialised subjects at an advanced level – Chemistry and Biology, or Mathematics and Physics, or Mathematics and a Foreign Language, which are necessary for admission to higher education institutions. Students in these classes also study the elective course "Introduction to Agrarian Professions".
"Our task is to foster a positive attitude towards the agro-industrial complex among the students, introduce them to the best agricultural enterprises and educational institutions, and demonstrate that this sector is highly technological today. This is evidenced by a decent salary level and working conditions, and the labour of people in this profession is valued and enjoys well-deserved respect in society," specialists emphasised.
