The heating season in the Vitebsk region is concluding on April 25-26, with heat supply to be disconnected for almost all categories of consumers, as reported by the main department of housing and communal services of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
Most districts in the northern region have switched their administrative buildings and housing stock heat sources to summer operating modes from April 25. Others are disconnecting heating today. "In the region, the average daily air temperature over three days from April 19 to 21 was plus 8 degrees Celsius and above. The working group on optimising heat supply modes recommended that all district executive committees disconnect heat supply," the housing and communal services department stated, adding that kindergartens, schools, hospitals, and boarding schools continue to receive heating in the regions.
Preparations for the next heating season in the Vitebsk region have already commenced. During the spring-summer period, it is planned to replace approximately 44 km of heating networks within the housing and communal services system, and material procurement is currently underway. Preparatory work has begun at some facilities, specifically at two sites that will be converted to use local types of fuel – wood chips. This refers to the PTL boiler house in Postavy and the central boiler house in Tolochin, where the dismantling of worn-out equipment is being carried out.
Simultaneously, firewood is being procured. According to the plan, around 300 thousand dense cubic meters of firewood and wood chips need to be stocked. This task will be completed by the beginning of the next heating season. Routine maintenance on the housing stock, heating networks, and boiler houses is ongoing.
The current heating season in the northern region began on September 20.
