"The initiative to declare 2016 the Year of Culture came primarily from creative professionals. This initiative belongs not so much to the Ministry of Culture of Belarus as to representatives of creative unions," said Irina Driga.
The upcoming year in the cultural sphere is a year of significant anniversaries, emphasized the First Deputy Minister of Culture. These include the 125th anniversary of the birth of Maksim Bahdanovich, the 75th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Mulyavin, anniversaries of Kondrat Krapiva, Ivan Shamyakin, and many other Belarusian writers. It is an anniversary year for the "Slavianski Bazaar" arts festival – it turns 25. Each of these events, each of these personalities, is worthy of developing a complex of activities, believes Irina Driga.
Thus, one of the first significant events in the series of activities commemorating Vladimir Mulyavin will be a concert on January 12 – the birthday of the renowned Belarusian, at the Belarusian State Philharmonic. A project under the creative direction of Vladimir Mulyavin's wife, Svetlana Penkina, is also being prepared. It will be an original program, an author's evening, presenting works written by the musician himself. The staging of the play "Songs" by the M. Gorky National Academic Drama Theatre and the rock opera "The Song of Fate" by the Zhivnovich National Academic Folk Orchestra of Belarus is planned not only in Minsk but also in other cities of Belarus.
Many events are planned for the anniversary of Maksim Bahdanovich next year, added the First Deputy Minister. Various campaigns, such as "Reading Bahdanovich Together," will be held.
In 2016, the theme of popularising Belarusian art and prominent figures of Belarusian culture will be relevant. Some cultural sites will be opened after restoration. A monument to the legendary princess Anastasia Slutskaya is planned to be erected in Slutsk.
Projects that have been underway in Belarus for several years will be enriched with new content. Thus, a new concept for the "Slavianski Bazaar" festival has already been developed and submitted for approval by the Head of State. "The theme of summing up creative results and defining new development prospects for the festival runs like a red thread through it. Many stars are planned to attend the celebration, and the works of festival laureates from different years will be presented. Surprises are also being prepared that emphasize the festival's status, its role, and significance in the development not only of Belarusian culture (the festival is undoubtedly a symbol of Belarus) but also its contribution to the development of world musical art," noted Irina Driga.
"Culture is a multifaceted concept, also meaning nurturing and education. Therefore, events will be held that will touch upon the culture of order on the land, the culture in production, and in human relations," emphasized the First Deputy Minister of Culture.
