On April 9th at 13:33, the rescue service received a report of dry vegetation catching fire near the village of Dvor Susha, Bobrovsky rural council. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene. It was established that dry vegetation was burning in separate patches over an area of approximately 1 hectare. There was also a threat of the fire spreading to nearby houses and outbuildings. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) personnel, the fire was successfully extinguished. There were no casualties. The suspected cause of the fire is careless handling of fire during the burning of dry vegetation; the responsible person is being identified.
By setting grass on fire or making a campfire in a prohibited area, many people do not suspect the danger hidden in seemingly harmless actions, not realising that a small campfire can turn into a fiery trap in a matter of seconds, destroying everything in its path.
The MES of Belarus reminds that, in accordance with Article 15.57 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, for burning dry vegetation, grass in its root, as well as stubble and post-harvest residues in fields, or for failing to take measures to extinguish such fires, responsible persons shall be brought to administrative liability in the form of a fine ranging from ten to forty basic units. Making campfires in prohibited areas entails a warning or a fine of up to twelve basic units. Criminal liability is provided for the destruction or damage of peatlands and forest areas.
Remember that grass fires that have just started can be extinguished independently by covering the edges of the fire with soil or sand. Bundles of twigs or branches from deciduous trees, dense fabric, or wet clothing can also be used for extinguishing. Make sweeping blows to the edge of the fire from the side towards the fire source, as if sweeping away the flames; turn the branches and fabric after each blow so that they cool down and do not catch fire. After extinguishing the fire, do not leave until you are sure that the fire will not reignite.
If you cannot extinguish the fire by yourself, immediately call the MES service on phones 101 or 112 and leave the fire scene as quickly as possible.

2 individuals were held liable for violating fire safety regulations when lighting fires under Part 1 of Article 23.56 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus.
