Motorists should remember that when driving on icy roads, even at low speeds, abrupt movements are unacceptable, whether when changing gears, accelerating, or maneuvering. Any jerks and sudden movements will almost certainly lead to the loss of traction of the drive wheels and skidding of the vehicle.

Pedestrians should pay attention to possible icy sidewalks, approach the edge of the roadway carefully, and exercise maximum attention and caution when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing. Remember that a vehicle cannot be stopped instantly. Step onto the pedestrian crossing only after ensuring that drivers have stopped and are yielding to you.
