Specialists, who will be part of mobile groups along with employees from other interested organisations and departments, will check for the technical inspection of agricultural machinery, medical examinations of workers, provision of personal protective equipment, and will examine how hot meals are organised, and whether conditions for eating and rest are created. They will also assess whether employees are transported to and from work in specially equipped vehicles, and whether all workplaces involving pesticides and mineral fertilisers are equipped with first-aid kits. Managers who fail to ensure safe working conditions will be held accountable in the prescribed manner.
The inspection of working conditions and compliance with labour protection legislation is carried out during a month-long campaign in the region dedicated to spring field work.
According to operational data from the regional department, six people died in industrial accidents in organisations of the Vitebsk region during the first quarter of 2018, the same as in the corresponding period of the previous year. Twenty-three workers sustained severe industrial injuries in January-March (19 in the same period in 2017). An increase in fatal industrial injuries was noted in organisations in the Gluboksky, Ushachsky, and Orshansky districts, as well as in Orsha and Novopolotsk.
Among the main causes of accidents are the failure of managers and specialists to fulfil their labour protection duties, the victim's violation of labour and production discipline, labour protection instructions, and allowing work without training and knowledge testing on labour protection issues. The most common cause was the violation of traffic rules by another person.
