The State Border Committee of Belarus has created a special online resource www.traffic.gpk.gov.by for prompt public information on small border traffic between Belarus and Latvia. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the State Border Committee. In particular, the online resource contains basic concepts of small border traffic, a list of administrative-territorial units included in the border areas, and a list of documents required for crossing the border. Local border traffic between Belarus and Latvia will allow residents of the border areas of both countries to cross the Belarusian-Latvian border in a visa-free regime. An intergovernmental agreement on this was signed in Riga on August 23, 2010. On December 1, 2011, an exchange of written notifications on the completion by Belarus and Latvia of the internal procedures necessary for the document to enter into force took place at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. From this day on, local authorities began compiling lists of residents of border areas eligible for relevant permits. Permits will be issued based on lists of residents of border areas: for Belarus - at the Consulate General in Daugavpils, for Latvia - at the Consulate in Vitebsk. -0-
